Each week, Billboard Dance looks at songs & albums rising on Billboard’s dance charts.
DJ Regard, “Ride It”
Ferizaj, Kosovo-based DJ Regard (real name Dardan Aliu), who takes his stage name from the French word “regarde,” meaning “to see,” rockets onto Billboard‘s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart (dated Aug. 10) at No. 21 with “Ride It.”
The smooth, deep house track is a newly constructed cover of Jay Sean’s “Ride It,” which rode to No. 18 on Euro Digital Song Sales in 2008. Regard’s “Ride,” his first Billboard chart entry, earned 2.4 million U.S. streams and sold 1,000 downloads in the tracking week ending Aug. 1, according to Nielsen Music.
“I was touring in Zrce Beach, Croatia, when the idea of making ‘Ride It’ came to me,” Regard recalls. “I was very drunk returning to my apartment from my gig and I was listening Jay Sean’s song, and the rattles on my head from the sound system at my gig made the perfect combination to make the track. The moment I arrived home, I started to make the basic idea of ‘Ride It.’ “
Jess Glynne & Jax Jones, “One Touch”
Jess Glynne and Jax Jones jump aboard Dance/Mix Show Airplay at No. 26 with “One Touch.” It’s Glynne’s first appearance on Dance/Mix Show Airplay in nearly four years, since “Hold My Hand” (No. 8, 2015), and Jones’ fifth chart hit, following his recent topper “All Day and Night,” with Martin Solveig and Madison Beer (No. 1 for two weeks in July). “Touch” is collecting airplay on core-dance affiliates, including Music Choice’s Dance/EDM channel, iHeartRadio’s Pride Radio (as monitored on WFLZ-HD Tampa, Florida) and KNHC (C89.5) Seattle.
